U.S. Broadband Map

An interesting map put together by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the Federal Communications Commission looking at broadband penetration in the U.S.A.

The map is quite interesting as it shows that the strength of broadband penetration along the eastern seaboard and through major metropolitan areas, with areas like New England showing a particular strength.

Outside of the major metropolitan areas broadband penetration seems to be very low especially in the mountainous northwestern states of Montana and Idaho.

It would be an interesting exercise to look at the same data for New Zealand as it would show similar trends around Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and limited penetration in predominantly rural areas.
