RIM, Apple and Android hits parity in US smartphone OS market share – Nielsen

The latest Nielsen stats show that the long declining market share trend for RIM’s Blackberry OS, the stagnancy of Apple and the growth of Android has all come to a head now as all three players reach parity.

Data from the last 6 months suggest that this isn’t yet the pinnacle of Android’s rise. Both Apple and RIM must be racking their brains now wondering where they go to from here, although in saying that, I think RIM has done well to regain some sense of composure and stability in the market.

Interesting times for the smartphone market indeed. The best thing about all this competition is that it will drive continuous innovation from Google, Apple and RIM… and that can only be a good thing for consumers.
